How to hang and care for a wooden pixel picture
30 October 2026 · 2 min read

A wooden picture is made to last for years. What can harm it is limited and well known: direct sunlight, damp and the wrong cleaning. Below are the most important things we know about hanging and care.
Where to hang it
- Choose a wall that doesn’t get direct sunlight. Sun fades paint over time and can warp wood.
- Prefer a dry room. Bathrooms, the wall next to a cooker and damp walls are not good for wood.
- Keep it away from heaters. A radiator or a stove dries wood out.
At what height?
For a single piece, bring the centre of the picture to eye level, roughly 145–150 cm from the floor. Over a console, a chest of drawers or a sofa, keep the lower edge 20–25 cm above the furniture; closer and the picture looks stuck to it, further and it floats. A picture sits well when it is between about half and three quarters of the width of the furniture beneath it.
How to hang it
Use an anchor that suits the wall and can carry the weight: a plasterboard anchor for plasterboard, a steel anchor for concrete. Mark the spot with a small spirit level before you hang it; in a pixel picture the horizontal lines are very visible, and even a few millimetres of tilt shows.
How to dust it
Dust it with a soft, dry brush. Don’t use water, a damp cloth or a cleaning spray; they can damage the paint and the wood. For dust between the blocks, move the brush parallel to the blocks and don’t press on the faces.
When moving it
Carry the piece with both hands, without pressing on its face. Keep the shipping box and the foam; they will come in handy when you move or send it as a gift.
